Enhancing Environmental Monitoring: MUSA Green’s Collaboration with Indonesia Pupuk Sriwijaya

Project Date: 2021
Location: PT Pupuk Sriwijaya
In Collaboration: Alfa Pegasus

MUSA Green, in partnership with Indonesia Pupuk Sriwijaya. And also In Collaboration with Alfa Pegasus, has embarked on an innovative project aimed at upgrading the online monitoring system for KLHK (Environmental Monitoring and Management System) Regulation, which is SPARING that can monitor wastewater quality continuously in PUSRI (Pupuk Sriwijaya). The primary objective of this collaboration is to create a more comprehensive and efficient system for monitoring Pollution Load (Beban Pencemaran) in compliance with regulations and customized requirements.

Problem & Challenge

Effectively monitoring and controlling pollution levels is a fundamental element of responsible environmental management. It is imperative to prevent industrial operations from surpassing specified pollution thresholds, not only to uphold environmental sustainability but also to meet regulatory obligations. Nevertheless, the current system grapples with various issues, such as restricted notification capabilities and insufficient storage of historical data. The parameters under scrutiny for wastewater analysis encompass pH, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TSS (Total Suspended Solids), and NH3-N (Ammonia as Nitrogen), all aimed at ensuring that quality standards are consistently met without any exceedance.

Solution

To address these challenges, MUSA Green is implementing a multi-faceted solution. The upgraded system will include an advanced alert system and notification feature. This feature will immediately notify relevant stakeholders when pollution load exceeds the set limits, whether these limits are based on regulations or customized values.

In addition to the notification feature, the project includes the development of a robust MySQL database. This database will store historical sensor data, enabling in-depth analysis and informed decision-making. Furthermore, the system will feature a dashboard providing real-time information on device and sensor health status, maintenance needs, calibration requirements, and the last time a calibration was performed. These enhancements will ensure that the SPARING KLHK system is more efficient and capable of meeting the evolving demands of environmental monitoring.

Benefit & Impact

  1. Enhanced Environmental Protection: The upgraded system will provide real-time alerts when pollution levels exceed limits, allowing for immediate action to mitigate environmental harm.
  2. Regulatory Compliance: By customizing the notification system to regulatory requirements, the project ensures strict adherence to environmental regulations, reducing the risk of fines or penalties.
  3. Data-Driven Decision-Making: The robust historical data storage and dashboard feature will empower decision-makers with valuable insights into sensor health, maintenance needs, and calibration status, enabling proactive maintenance and optimization of the system.
  4. Efficiency and Accuracy: The project will improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of the SPARING KLHK system, making it a valuable tool for environmental monitoring and management.
  5. Sustainable Practices: By better managing pollution load, the project contributes to the promotion of sustainable and responsible industrial practices.
