Project Date: 2020
Location: Paper Tech Subang & Magelang
In Collaboration: PT Alfa Pegasus
Papertech Indonesia, a trailblazing paper mill recognized as the first of its kind in Asia, stands as a beacon of excellence in the production of top-tier paper products. Their legacy is underscored by an unwavering dedication to research and development, particularly in the field of Coreboard manufacturing. With operations spanning the strategic regions of Subang and Magelang, Papertech Indonesia faces the formidable challenge of aligning with the rigorous environmental regulations set by the Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK), Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
These KLHK regulations leave no room for compromise in the monitoring and reporting of wastewater quality, emphasizing the imperative to safeguard Indonesia’s natural resources and ecosystems. Non-compliance carries the weight of substantial fines and environmental damage. In response, Papertech Indonesia has taken a monumental step towards environmental sustainability by adopting MUSA Green’s state-of-the-art SPARING Online Monitoring system.
Problem & Challenge
Meeting the stringent environmental regulations set by the Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) is an arduous endeavor for industrial facilities, especially for a pioneering paper mill like Papertech Indonesia. The company confronted a formidable challenge in ensuring compliance with the exacting standards of SPARING KLHK, which specifically pertain to the monitoring and reporting of wastewater quality data.
Operating across multiple locations in Subang and Magelang, the paper mill’s industrial processes are notably complex. This intricacy presented a considerable obstacle to effectively monitor and report water quality. Failure to comply with these regulations could not only lead to substantial fines but also inflict detrimental environmental consequences, making adherence to these standards an absolute imperative.
Solution
To address this challenge, Papertech Indonesia chose to implement MUSA Green’s SPARING Online Monitoring system. This solution consists of two key components:
- Firmware Data Logger: This software, installed in data loggers, streamlines the process of sending critical data to KLHK and the client server. It excels at publishing data to the KLHK server while also storing information in CSV format on local PCs. This functionality is vital for accurate reporting and traceability.
- Dashboard Web: An intuitive interface accessible via web browsers that allows real-time monitoring of historical sensor data. This feature-rich dashboard monitors hardware, providing analytical insights. It offers error notifications and alarms to ensure immediate response in case of discrepancies. Users can also download monitoring data in CSV/Excel format onto remote PCs for further analysis and record-keeping.
The system’s dashboard and database are hosted in the cloud using Google Cloud Platform, with a data center based in Indonesia. This platform can also be seamlessly integrated into the client’s website. It’s essential to note that the firmware can accommodate data from up to five sensors, making it adaptable to different monitoring needs.
Benefit & Impact
The implementation of the MUSA Green SPARING Online Monitoring system has had a substantial impact:
- Enhanced Environmental Compliance: The system provides a streamlined solution for reporting wastewater quality data, ensuring that Papertech Indonesia meets the strict standards of SPARING KLHK. This compliance not only avoids fines but also contributes to environmental protection.
- Operational Efficiency: Real-time monitoring, error alerts, and data analysis capabilities contribute to operational efficiency. It helps in identifying issues promptly and optimizing processes, ultimately saving time and resources.
- Environmental Sustainability: By adhering to environmental standards and regulations, Papertech Indonesia significantly reduces its environmental footprint, contributing to sustainability and responsibility in paper manufacturing.
- Data Accessibility: The cloud-based solution ensures that data is accessible from anywhere, which can be invaluable for remote management and decision-making.
- Scalability: The system’s flexibility, accommodating up to five sensors, ensures that it can adapt to changing monitoring needs and future growth.
